Sharepoint from Microsoft - indeed at least two law firms are presently building their own DMS to replace dominant vendor offerings as their core firm DMS.

When considering SharePoint 2007, also take a look at products from XMLAW, Handshakeand Coras Works. SharePoint is a great portal platform, but certainly isn't law firm ready out of the box.
